Where incense smoke meets old craft — a gourd-form holder in dark hardwood and hand-laid brass inlay, carrying the good-fortune symbolism of Da Ji into every room.

In classical Chinese symbolism, the gourd is among the most auspicious of all forms. Its double-lobed silhouette has carried the meaning of fortune and prosperity through centuries of decorative art, its sound echoing the phrase for luck and abundance. This holder takes that form and gives it weight and texture: a gourd cut from dark hardwood, flat on its face, worked in the traditional copper-inlay technique that traces its lineage through generations of artisan practice.

The body is dark and smooth against the warmer walnut-toned outer frame. Against this ground, the inlay work reads quietly but precisely — green leaves, white flowers, and a small gourd figure rendered in colored inlay set into the dark wood surface. The motifs follow the curve of the piece in continuous flowing lines, brass and color laid into wood rather than applied on top of it. This is the quality that distinguishes inlay from print or paint: the decoration is inside the material, not on it.

Parallel carved channels cross the face of the holder to receive incense sticks. Smoke rises through these grooves, moving slowly across the inlaid surface as it disperses. The holder is weighted and stable — sized to sit without shifting on a desk or altar shelf, and compact enough to carry meaning without demanding attention.

The round incense disc included in the set bears the same Da Ji lettering that appears on the outer box: Great Fortune, written in the bold brushwork character that has served as an auspicious greeting across the Chinese calendar. Both pieces arrive nested in a deep red lacquered gift box, accompanied by a matching red gift bag with black ribbon handles. The packaging is a complete presentation — the kind that makes the gift itself part of the giving.

Place it where you burn incense. Set a stick in the carved groove and let the smoke carry slowly across the gourd's face, through the inlaid vines and flowers, into the room. The fragrance is yours to choose; the form and the wishing are already present.

Materials: Dark hardwood body, walnut-toned outer frame, traditional copper (brass) colored inlay, incense disc (composition not specified in source), red lacquered gift box with gold foil lettering, red gift bag with black ribbon handles.

Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the inlay finish and wood tone. Wipe gently with a dry cloth. Not for use with liquid incense.

About Agarwood

Agarwood forms when an aquilaria tree responds to injury by producing a dense, resin-saturated heartwood. The rarer the resin, the deeper the fragrance.

Kynam is the highest grade — soft, oily, complex. Its scent shifts from sweet to floral to woody throughout the day.
