Kynam Agarwood Bracelet, Carved Focal Cube & Sky-Blue Turquoise

Most agarwood bracelets are composed entirely of round or oval beads. This one is built differently. The strand runs through flat disc-cut agarwood beads before arriving at a single carved cube — a larger, square-form agarwood bead with inlaid characters across its face. The cube is the piece's centre of gravity. Everything else exists in relation to it.

The disc-cut Kynam agarwood is for the fragrance and the foundation. The flat discs are cut from Kynam agarwood at approximately 8.5mm, their cross-sectional faces showing oil-rich grain in the close, dense pattern that identifies well-saturated material. At body heat the disc format releases fragrance efficiently — more surface area in contact with the skin means more consistent warmth. The total piece weighs approximately 8 grams: light enough to be forgotten, present enough to notice.

The carved focal cube is for the intention at the centre of the piece. The square-form agarwood bead is larger and more substantial than the discs around it. Its faces carry inlaid characters and a small carved relief figure — a focal point that is more than decorative. The inlay is worked precisely into the dark wood surface, the carved relief sharp and intentional. This is a focal that has been made, not manufactured.

The sky-blue turquoise is for the mineral note that steadies the palette. A small turquoise bead and a turquoise disc provide the one cool element in an otherwise warm composition of dark wood. The high-porcelain blue-green quality holds its presence without competing with the focal.
