For the neck that wants its pendant to be the wood itself — Kynam agarwood rounds along the full strand, a carved agarwood gourd at the base, with South Red and jadeite accents marking the lower section.

The strand is Kynam agarwood rounds at 6+ mm, running consistently from the clasp all the way down to the pendant — the wood present for the full length, the fragrance carried on every bead. Individual rounds in warm brown, matte, each slightly different in grain direction from the next, the overall strand reading as a continuous dark ground. At approximately 17 grams total, the piece has the presence of a fully weighted necklace.

In the lower portion of the strand, the agarwood gives way to a multi-stone accent section: South Red Agate in irregular orange-red barrel pieces, bright vivid green jadeite in small irregular chips, and turquoise accents — the three materials appearing together in a short cluster before the strand resolves into the pendant below. This is the color section, the place where the quiet dark agarwood strand becomes vivid for a moment before collecting into the focal piece.

The South Red is for the warm color event in the lower strand. The South Red pieces are irregular barrel form — cut to follow the natural shape of the stone rather than forced into a standard round, the irregularity giving each piece a slightly different profile. The color is vivid orange-red, South Red in the persimmon range.

The jadeite is for the bright cool counterpoint. The jadeite is bright vivid green — A-grade Burmese jadeite in the spicy green color range, the most saturated hue this stone produces. In small irregular chips, it appears as the cool counterpoint to the warm South Red beside it. Against both the dark agarwood above and the warm red stone beside it, the bright green jadeite makes both read more intensely by contrast.

The turquoise is for the second cool note that completes the range. Turquoise accents complete the section, the blue-green providing a third cool note alongside the jadeite, present in just enough quantity to bridge the green and the red without dominating either.

The carved agarwood gourd is for the focal piece that the strand arrives at. At the base of the strand, the focal piece: a carved agarwood gourd — the traditional calabash form in natural agarwood, the surface showing the warm grain and natural contour of the worked wood. The gourd is full and round, the upper lobe smaller than the lower in the traditional calabash proportion, the form immediately legible from across the room as the pendant that anchors the whole composition.

The agarwood is for the strand and the pendant — the wood appearing twice, as the ground material above and as the focal carved form below. The South Red and jadeite are for the accent section: the two vivid colors that appear before the pendant, the color event that marks the transition from strand to focal piece.

Materials: Kynam agarwood (round beads, approx. 6+ mm, strand; carved gourd pendant) · South Red Agate (irregular barrel accent pieces) · jadeite (A-grade, bright green, irregular chips) · turquoise (accent pieces) · adjustable cord with extension. Approx. 17 g total.

Natural agarwood — grain, fragrance, and carved surface character vary by piece. Natural stones — color and character vary. Avoid water. Store in a pouch when not worn.

About Agarwood

Agarwood forms when an aquilaria tree responds to injury by producing a dense, resin-saturated heartwood. The rarer the resin, the deeper the fragrance.

Kynam is the highest grade — soft, oily, complex. Its scent shifts from sweet to floral to woody throughout the day.
